Miu Watanabe is spearheading the new generation of TJPW as it heads into its next era.
After winning the Princess of Princess Championship from Miyu Yamashita in a career-defining performance at Grand Princess 24, she has taken on all comers from within and outside of Tokyo Joshi Pro-Wrestling. Most notable was her fantastic match against Shoko Nakajima at Yes! Wonderland 2024. The pair tore down Korakuen Hall and had fans raving about it being an all-timer for the company.
A moment of redemption came when Daydream partner Rika Tatsumi called her out, and she was able to avenge the emotional defeat at Grand Princess 23, where her International Princess reign ended.
In keeping with the spirit of that previous run, she battled visitors in VertVixen and most recently Princess Cup winner Ryo Mizunami, in both cases showing versatility and strength as she defended her title and company. Not resting on her laurels, Watanabe has adapted and introduced the devastating Reverse Paradox submission into her repertoire, which is in line with TJPW itself evolving with new members and refreshed veterans.

Watanabe is also an idol performing with the Up Up Girls. So, she often opens and closes shows, encompassing everything that is Tokyo Joshi Pro-Wrestling.
As TJPW continues to branch out into countries all over the globe, they will be doing a multi-show collaboration with both DDT and DEFY. At Bright Eyes, Watanabe will be teaming with Shoko Nakajima to take on Yuki Aino and Zara Zakher (who eliminated Watanabe from this year’s Princess Cup, becoming a future challenger). Prior to these sets of shows, Miu Watanabe took time from her busy schedule to have a quick chat with RESURA about being an idol and pro wrestler on the road to Seattle.
RESURA – Are there similarities with being an idol and wrestling? What are the biggest challenges with each?
Miu Watanabe – Both have many things in common. The first thing I can say is that I can shine because I have the support of my fans!
As for my challenge, I want more people to get to know and see me, and I want to master the art of shining brightly!
Q – What does being a champion mean to you? Do you feel the need to uphold any particular responsibilities or legacies?
A – I think a champion is a strong, kind, forward and sparkling being! I am trying my best to be like that. I would like to work harder so that I can lead TJPW to even greater heights.
Q – What influences your drawing and artwork? It is quite unique and sometimes scary.
A – I don’t know, I’m just drawing what I think and I’ve been doing it since I was a kid! Scary!? No, it’s cute!!
Q – As an idol and as a professional wrestler, what are your goals for 2024 and beyond?
A – To be known by more people. And to share a happy space with fans who support me. I want to sparkle more.
Q – Do you have a special message to fans coming to see TJPW in Seattle?
A – This is the first time TJPW is going to Seattle. I am very excited to meet all the fans in Seattle. Please take this opportunity to invite all your friends and family to our show and make it a great day!
